The hair on the top of my head use to be super oily. I use to wash every single day because one, my hair was oily and two, my hair was a mess. I can now go 4-5 days without washing my hair and it still looks great. How did I do it? Let me tell you all my secrets…
Fight Oil with Oil
I started doing weekly oil treatments. I know, why would you put oil on your already oily scalp? Well, oil does NOT make your hair oily. I use the Rejuveniqe Oil by Monat and it soaks right in. I can leave it in over night or just a few hours and it leaves my hair shiny and soft, not oily. I do wash my hair after the treatment. I sometimes put a little on my ends after blow drying for extra moisture as well. The oil treatment helps balance your natural oils and your scalp stops over producing.
STOP washing everyday
Stop washing your hair everyday. This is stripping your hair of it’s natural oils telling your scalp to produce more. It may take a few weeks for your scalp to re-adjust but hang in there and you will be able to go 2 days, then 3 days then 4-5 days. I recommend at least washing 2 times a week. The trick is using a shampoo that does not strip the natural oils. Monat is all natural based and allows me to go longer between washings. If you need to use a dry shampoo in between washings while training your hair.
Add a Clarifying Shampoo
I also added in a clarifying shampoo while training my hair. This helps remove build up and keep the scalp super clean. Monat is free from harsh chemicals, silicones, parabens, gluten ,etc. so you will have less build up from using an all natural based shampoo. You can use a clarifying shampoo every other wash or once a month depending on your needs.
I don’t care what shampoo your using, but wash your hair twice. The first wash you need to massage the scalp for one minute then rinse. Apply your second wash and let the shampoo set for 2-3 minutes, then rinse. Your first wash is removing build up and the second wash is repairing your hair. I recommend an all natural based shampoo without harsh chemicals for best results.
Condition ONLY the ends
I only shampoo my scalp and condition the ends of my hair. Our scalp doesn’t need any conditioner because it gets plenty of nutrients. Our ends are farther away from the scalp so they need a conditioner for added moisture. That is why your ends always seem dryer then the rest of your hair. If your hair tangles easily, try brushing it before jumping in the shower.
Stop Over Brushing
When blow drying your hair only brush towards the end. You don’t want to over brush your hair. When your hair is wet, it is more fragile. If you apply heat, it activates your oil glands. Try blow drying until your hair is almost dry and then using a brush to style. Also, using hot tools more frequently can contribute to an increase in oil production.
I have to say going 4-5 days without having to wash my hair has been amazing! I have been using Monat for 6 months and don’t know why I have not tried it sooner. Who has time to wash their hair everyday? I know I do NOT. This experience has been life changing. If you want to try Monat for yourself, I can help you get started.
